Weird and Wonderful Celebrity Bathrooms
Do you remember watching MTV Cribs? Taking a thrilling guided tour round some of the biggest stars in America and the UK; marking them down for not having a swimming pool or hot tub; turning green with envy at the size of their shoe or car collections; wondering why their homes had an excessive 6-8 bathrooms – all lavishly over-the-top – when yours probably only has one or two.
Freestanding bathtubs overlooking the rolling Hollywood hills, fish tanks bigger than your bedroom, walk-in showers that put most of our rooms to shame. Luxurious vanity spaces, huge floor to ceiling mirrors, gold toilets, marble, platinum, diamonds, glitter, rainbows, unicorns. You name it, the stars probably have them.
While we can’t give you a personal tour around all of the weird and wonderful celeb bathrooms, we can give you a little insight into the wackiest of the bunch. You may even get some inspiration for your own – you diva you!
Where better to stop on the a-list celebrity bathroom tour than the Jenner/Kardashians. While they’ve probably all splashed out a fortune to glamorise their private rooms, Kylie Kardashian truly wins the prize for decadence. The 21-year-old model and entrepreneur admitted to Architectural Digest that this is the room in which she spends most of her time. It’s pink, complete with Barbie-pink swivel chairs, blush marble counter tops, Hollywood dresser room mirrors and graphic prints. Not to mention it’s probably brimming with tons of Kylie make up products.
Hot on the tail of Kylie’s bathroom extravaganza is sister Kim. The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star shares a home (and presumably a bathroom or five) with husband Kanye West. In a video for Vogue’s 73 Questions, she left viewers intrigued about her weird and wonderful sinks which appeared to have faucets but…no basin! Yes, we were shocked too. Turns out their designer Claudio Silvestrin suggested the sinks were separate from the wall, like a sort of island in the middle of the space, where the water could flow gracefully into the drain because of a slight curve in the surface. A bathtub occupies the middle of the spacious bathroom – a room which Kim has described as a ‘minimal monastery’. Let’s pray we all own one of these bathrooms one day.
OK, so we promise this isn’t going to be an article just about the Jenner/Kardashian’s bathroom. But they are just too darn bizarre that Kendall also needed a quick mention. The often understated Kendall has made a gold metalling roll-top bathtub the centrepiece of her room, which sits free-standing in the middle of the room adjacent to a marble sink unit and walk-in shower.
The actress bought her 8,870-square foot Italianate Palazzo style back in September 2000. Complete with five full bathrooms, the estate is worth a whopping £10 million today. Each bathroom is lined with wacky vintage tiled murals. It’s pretty colourful, but still a bit creepy.
The Canadian rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer and businessman has one pretty jazzy feature in his bathroom – an experience shower. And it’s almost as famous as he is. What’s one of those you ask? Well it’s built with pre-programmed water choreographies that vary in temperature and intensity.
In his own words: ‘It's a shower that's lit by all LED lights. It has 10 jets, an overhead, and it sprays out lavender or whatever scents you want. It's something I've always wanted.’ Wow. Just wow.
The bathroom in Kanye’s former bachelor pad features a glorious chandelier. But that is nothing compared to the giant fish tank alongside the bathtub, and it’s pretty crazy – but also one on the coolest things we’ve seen. Way to keep it modest Kanye.
What the diva wants, the diva gets. And when the superstar made a glittering appearance on MTV Cribs back in the day, we were all gobsmacked by her Hello Kitty themed bathroom (not to mention her enviable shoe collection). Why on earth does a grown woman have a Hello Kitty room? Well, we’re not sure and we’re not ones to judge. Whether you think it’s cute or crazy, you certainly have to admire her dedication to the theme.
Legendary TV host Richard Clark brings an entirely new meaning to the term ‘man cave’ with his Flintstone’s inspired house. On the plus side, it does feature gorgeous views of the Pacific Ocean but quite frankly, it’s one of the oddest bathrooms we’ve seen. Estate agents have branded the building as ‘prehistoric-modern’. We’re sorry, but the prehistoric look is not making a comeback…in fact, it never came at all.
Lucky, there are no Brits in this list. Meaning we probably have pretty good taste.
